We offer 3 complexes with a total of 21 unique active ingredients. After considering nutrition from food, drinks and these complexes there are still some other supplements I use on a somewhat regular basis. These include:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
- Melatonin
- Lion’s Mane
- Collagen
- Magnesium*
In Part-1 we discussed Vitamin C, Niacin and Melatonin. Here we continue with the benefits of Lion’s Mane.
Lion’s Mane
Lion’s Mane is a newly evolved mushroom and is best known for supporting memory, cognition and the nervous system. It can also help with anxiety, inflammation, depression, ulcers and heart disease. It has been consistently shown to increase a certain protein that helps you produce new brain cells and neurons. It may be difficult to produce but a healthy body will do it. Lion’s Mane also helps protect brain cells and help them to live longer. Other great benefits are that Lion’s Mane can help you feel calm and improve your mood.
If we were to include Lion’s Mane in our formulas it would be in the Immune and Respiratory Support formula. The fit is not perfect. This formula already has a number of ingredients and we don’t want to use large capsules. However, we hope to include Lion’s Mane in a new product. Though this may not be available until sometime in 2024.
For now, I rely on the most trusted brands for Lion’s Mane (for example Host Defense). I’m sure there are many other good ones providing greater value but this is not a priority for me right now. Your recommendations are welcome.
Lion’s Mane on its own has holistic benefits and complements our 3 offers nicely. Iodine users, especially the coffee drinkers, may want to monitor their energy levels because Lion’s Mane can also boost energy.
Collagen
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. It is a key component in bones, skin, muscles, brain and other tissues. There are many types of collagen that support different tissues. As a supplement it is often used to promote healthy skin. Collagen supports joint health, the cardiovascular system and protects the liver and kidneys. Collagen would be best suited for our ADK (Vitamin D3 Complex) formula however space is limited and it did not take priority over other ingredients. Naturally collagen is a great complement to the ADK Formula which supports healthy skin and regenerative processes.
I prefer to get collagen from food though I do keep collagen handy for occasional use. It is usually included in a juice made with Vitamin C and Niacin. If it is late evening then Melatonin will also be included.
This nutrient is recommended as part of other supplements because of the holistic benefits it provides. It not only complements our three offers, but also all of the ‘other supplements’ in this blog.
Magnesium*
Magnesium is an exception to the ‘other supplements’ because it is included in our Immune and Respiratory Support Formula. Each capsule has 40 mg which is great for the formula but supplementing with magnesium usually means working with higher amounts. Some would consider 400 mg per day to be a good amount. Though, I believe we get a good amount of the required magnesium from food.
Magnesium is holistically very sound with many functions and benefits throughout the body. It is not as cheap as Vitamin C, Niacin and Melatonin but it is still fairly inexpensive, standardized and widely available. We did not include more Magnesium in the Immune formula because it would make the capsules too big.
Summary
Along with our 3 complex offers we feel that these 6 nutrients would make a great addition to your holistic nutritional support system. We strive to create new products that include these nutrients but for now must be patient. Until then take advantage of all the complementary benefits by incorporating them into your diet in your own way.
